Our story

How Space Agency began

The origin story

My wife and I started Space Agency during the Covid years. We are both really big board game people, and I'm proud to say that our son is becoming one too.

I had the idea for this game after playing so many of our favorite board games, and a bunch of digital space games. I always have a running list of fifty games I want to make, but they don't go anywhere until something clicks.

For Space Agency, things just kept clicking.

  • Missions over months Space is big. So missions should take actual time to complete.
  • Chance, kind of. Everything you do during your mission is up to a dice roll. But you can do a lot to affect that outcome.
  • Joint missions Why fly alone when you can fly with someone else? Science is key in this game, and joint missions is the best way to get it.

Then I got the illustrations done, and oh my goodness were we motivated to work on this thing. I got the art done way too early, but it really helped keep me motivated.
